Dr Andreas Mavrides is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist. He studied, and was fully trained, in the UK.
He received his secondary education at The English School, Nicosia and following his military service graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London, in 1996.
Between 1996 and 2006 he trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, under the guidance of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). In 1997 he gained the Diploma in Family Planning (DFFP), which is a Faculty of the RCOG.
In 2000 he was awarded from Nottingham University his Masters of Medical Sciences in Assisted Reproduction Technologies, with distinction, and until 2003 continued his training in the fields of subfertility and assisted reproduction techniques at the Sheffield Fertility Centre. This was followed by further specialisation at the Reproductive Unit of Hammersmith Hospital in London, where he worked as a Lecturer and Research Fellow where he gained considerable experience by working alongside some of the leaders in the field of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. In 2001 he was appointed as Specialist Registrar at the London Deanery, a position that enabled him to acquire considerable experience in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and, more specifically, endoscopic surgery for fertility and other gynaecological indications. He is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon, using keyhole surgery techniques to perform procedures such as the removal of ovarian cysts, treatment of polycystic ovaries, removal / repair of tubes, hysterectomies etc.
In 2002 he became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), and from 2004 worked as a Senior Registrar at St George’s Hospital in London. St George’s is one of the busiest hospitals in the UK with approximately 6,000 deliveries a year, including high risk pregnancies. It is one of the UK’s leading centres for Gynaecological oncology where complex gynaecological surgery is performed.
He is currently working in a Consultant capacity and is a member of the British Fertility Society (BFS) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Endocrinology (ESHRE).
